How to Maximize Scholarship Dollars

Whether or not you plan to play your sport in college, knowing where to look to maximize your scholarship opportunities can make a big difference in the financial burden you are left with after school.

The college application process can be daunting even without considering the financial stress it can cause.  Knowing where to source scholarship dollars can alleviate some of this pressure and get you started on the right foot.  If you aren’t sure where to start looking for a scholarship (many of which can be used in combination with one other) check out the list below to help you uncover potential opportunities. 

Although ACES Nation is a company that provides services for student-athletes and coaches, this list is based on academic and regional/local opportunities, regardless of whether you plan to play a sport at the collegiate level.  Check back soon for more information on best practices for securing an athletic scholarship in part 2 of this blog series.

1. College and University Websites:

   - Explore the official websites of colleges and universities in your state.

   - Look for scholarship opportunities offered exclusively to in-state students.

2. State Department of Education:

   - Check the website of your state's Department of Education.

   - They often provide information about state-specific scholarships and grants.

3. State-based Scholarship Programs:

   - Some states have scholarship programs aimed at supporting local students.

   - Examples include the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship or the California State Scholarship Program.

4. Local Community Foundations:

   - Research community foundations and organizations in your city or town.

   - Many offer scholarships to students residing in specific areas.

5. High School Guidance Counselors:

   - Consult with your high school guidance counselor.

   - They may have information on local scholarships or be able to guide you to relevant resources.
